Cricketer Shreyas Iyer Hospitalized in Sydney After Suffering Internal Bleeding

Indian cricket star Shreyas Iyer, the team’s ODI vice-captain, has been admitted to a hospital in Sydney and placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following a severe injury sustained during the recent match against Australia.

Details of the Injury and Diagnosis

Iyer was hurt while taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the third One Day International in Sydney. The injury involved an impact to his left lower rib cage.

According to a statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), scans conducted at the hospital revealed a laceration injury to the spleen.

The seriousness of the injury was highlighted after the player reportedly fainted in the dressing room with dangerously low vital signs, necessitating his urgent transfer to the hospital.

Current Status and Recovery Timeline

The BCCI confirmed that Iyer is currently medically stable and recovering well. He will remain under close medical observation for an estimated period of two to seven days. The team doctor will stay in Sydney to monitor his day-to-day progress.

While the initial prognosis suggested he might be out of action for approximately three weeks, the current situation indicates a potentially longer recovery period. He is expected to remain hospitalized in Sydney for at least one week before being cleared for travel back to India.

Iyer was not scheduled to participate in India’s upcoming T20 fixtures.
