In a sharp attack on the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge asserted that the coalition, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has not kept its commitments to the nation, especially in Bihar. Speaking at a public rally in Bihar’s Rohtas district, Kharge claimed that the Opposition’s INDIA bloc is prepared to deliver on the pledges outlined in its own manifesto.
Kharge specifically criticized the NDA government for failing to deliver on key promises, citing two examples:
- Farmers’ Income: The alleged failure to provide an annual sum of Rs 2 crore to farmers (a likely reference to pledges regarding farm prosperity or income).
- Housing: The lack of progress on the commitment to build one crore houses for the poor.
The Congress leader did not mince words when addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing the Prime Minister of frequently resorting to falsehoods and suggesting that Shah shares this characteristic.
Kharge also countered an alleged previous attack by the BJP on the RJD-Congress alliance, where the BJP suggested the RJD had coerced the Congress regarding Chief Ministerial candidates. Kharge dismissed this by stating that the BJP is the “real thief.”
Drawing a contrast between historical and current leadership, Kharge praised India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for establishing foundational public sector undertakings like HMT and BHEL. Conversely, he alleged that the BJP is attempting to govern the country with the support of the RSS and aims to enforce the principles of the ancient text Manusmriti, thereby seeking to move the country backward in time. Kharge concluded by confirming the Congress and the INDIA bloc’s vision to propel the nation forward.
