Shilpa Shetty Kundra on Wellness, Fashion, and Her Family’s Fitness Philosophy

In a recent conversation, actress and wellness entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty Kundra opened up about her multifaceted life, discussing her enduring dedication to fitness, her approach to diet, her new fashion venture, and how she integrates healthy habits into her family life with husband Raj Kundra and their children.

A Holistic Approach to Fitness and Diet

For Shilpa, fitness has evolved from a focus on aesthetics in her twenties to a commitment to longevity, strength, and mental clarity today. Her exercise regimen is a “non-negotiable” mix of disciplines:

  • Routine: She practices yoga, functional training, and strength work, constantly alternating between asanas, weights, and cardio to keep her routine fresh and engaging.
  • Key Philosophy: Consistency is paramount; she ensures she incorporates some form of movement daily, even if it’s just stretching or breathing exercises.
  • Morning Rituals: Her day begins with a moment of gratitude, followed by a warm drink (often water with turmeric or a detox mix), pranayama (breathing exercises), and a period of silence to set a positive tone.

When it comes to nutrition, Shilpa emphasizes mindful eating over calorie counting. Her Monday-to-Saturday diet consists of clean, wholesome meals rich in greens, lentils, fruits, protein, and ghee. This focus on nutritious eating is balanced by her well-known “Sunday Binge,” a scheduled day for indulgence, though she stresses that moderation remains key at all times.

Instilling Wellness in the Family

Shilpa shared that she encourages, but does not force, her husband and children to follow her wellness practices. She observes that Raj and the kids have naturally adopted several of her habits, making well-being a core family value.

The family’s health practices revolve around three simple pillars:

  1. Eating together.
  2. Eating clean.
  3. Moving their bodies daily.

Beyond diet and exercise, she highlighted the critical role of sleep, calling it her “best beauty secret.” She aims for at least seven hours of rest, emphasizing its importance for feeling positive, balanced, and focused, noting that no diet or skincare routine can replace the power of rejuvenation through sleep.

New Venture: ROAR and Her Style Mantra

The discussion also touched on her entrepreneurial endeavors, including her new clothing line, ‘Roar.’ The brand is designed to represent strength, individuality, and unapologetic confidence, and focuses on reimagining the timeless saree for the modern woman. Shilpa views the saree as a garment that embodies Indian elegance while offering endless possibilities for reinvention.

Her personal style mantra is defined as “comfort with a statement.” She values looks that reflect ease and confidence, asserting that she avoids following trends blindly and instead wears what genuinely makes her feel good and suits her personality.

Reflecting on Mental Health and Career

Looking back at her career, Shilpa reflected on the current shift towards open dialogue about mental health, noting that such conversations were scarce during her early years in the industry. She credits yoga and meditation with helping her find resilience and balance during unpredictable times.

Despite her many professional roles, from actress to entrepreneur, she stated that the most rewarding role she has ever embraced is being a mother, a role that has provided her with a profound sense of grounding and perspective.
