The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a political party founded by actor-politician Vijay, has officially empowered its leader to determine the party’s strategy for the next Assembly elections.
During a special general council meeting held at a private hotel in Mahabalipuram, the decision-making body of the party unanimously passed a resolution authorizing the founder to finalize all matters concerning political alliances for the forthcoming polls, which the party intends to contest in 2026.
The special session was convened by Vijay, who noted that the current political landscape was “favourable” for the new party.
Observances and Demands
Beyond the strategic decision on alliances, the meeting also addressed recent tragic events. Members observed a two-minute silence to mourn the 41 individuals who lost their lives in a stampede incident that occurred at a TVK rally in Karur approximately a month prior.
In addition, the party put forth a key demand to the authorities: the immediate cessation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process for electoral rolls.
